description: "Frankfurt isn’t just Germany’s financial capital—it’s also the capital of biting satire. After all, the satirical magazines “Pardon” and “Titanic” were founded here, and today the “Caricatura Museum Frankfurt—Museum of Comic Art” draws visitors. Right at the entrance, a large moose sculpture in a trench coat greets visitors, bearing the inscription: “The moose’s harshest critics used to be moose themselves.” That was the motto of F. W. Bernstein, who, along with Robert Gernhardt, Chlodwig Poth, and others, founded the satirical “New Frankfurt School.” Many of their caricatures are now on permanent display in the museum, along with rotating exhibitions of comic art. Since 2025, the collection has also included original works by Vicco von Bülow, alias Loriot; his family has entrusted his artistic estate to the museum. However, it’s not just the exhibitions that are worth seeing at this museum, but also the building that houses it: the late-Gothic Leinwandhaus was built around 1399 for the cloth trade. After World War II, it lay in ruins for a long time until it was rebuilt in the mid-1980s."
