Städel Hotel Package: Monet on the Normandy Coast

Description

Städel Museum Package: Monet on the Normandy Coast - The Discovery of Étretat 19.03. - 05.07.2026

In summer, Frankfurt's banks of the Main River are transformed into the French Atlantic coast, and the Städel Museum becomes a place of French longing.

From a fishing village on the Normandy coast to a mythical artists' retreat, Étretat became a source of inspiration for many painters in the 19th century and played an important role in the emergence of Impressionism. Monet in particular was fascinated by the sea and the chalk cliffs.

In collaboration with the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, the Städel Museum is presenting a major special exhibition that spans the artistic discovery of Étretat, the emergence of tourism, and the world-famous rock formations in works by Monet, Matisse, and Man Ray.
