In the 1990s, Frankfurt made techno big in Germany, and since 2022 this museum has been dedicated to electronic music in all its facets.
MOMEM stands for Museum of Modern Electronic Music, but the museum does not see itself as a museum in the strict sense. Rather, it is an art and cultural centre that focuses on many different aspects of life in addition to electronic music: Instruments and sound, club culture and fashion, apps and the music business. Frankfurt's pioneering role in the techno and house music genres is honoured in changing exhibitions, and the programme includes readings, lectures, workshops and, of course, guest performances by individual musicians. With its black walls and light installations, the MOMEM itself looks almost like a club, but the opening hours are reminiscent of a museum, as it closes at 7 pm.
