"Culture for all" - A legacy lives on

Hilmar Hoffmann would have celebrated his 100th birthday on August 25, 2025. We are honoring the long-serving Head of Cultural Affairs of the City of Frankfurt (1970-1990) with a special city tour along the Museumsufer - the unique cultural ensemble that would not exist without his visionary work. He was a pioneer of cultural mediation, in which he wanted to make "culture accessible to all". The German Film Museum, the German Architecture Museum, the Museum of Applied Arts, the Jewish Museum and many more - now internationally renowned institutions - were created or renovated.

The tour shows the history and development of the museums and pays tribute to Hilmar Hoffmann's lasting influence on Frankfurt's cultural self-image.
