Every child knows Lego. But before the Danish company was able to conquer the international market, there were hundreds of companies that produced a variety of building sets from around 1880. The DAM has the unique opportunity to use graphic artist Claus Krieger's private collection of architectural construction sets to create an exhibition that breaks through the "glass barrier" that usually separates the objects from the public in museums (for conservation reasons). At around eight stations in the center of the exhibition, visitors can play, build and develop new things. Prof. Andreas Kretzer from the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences (HFT) and his students have recreated the valuable original building blocks of the "Ingenius", "Bâtiss" and "Skyline" boxes on an enlarged scale to make them "playable". In addition, bricks from the "Minibrix", "Tetek" and "Dusyma" systems as well as the "Small Large Block Builder" from GDR production await anyone who enjoys building. You can also immerse yourself in a virtual model world using VR goggles, programmed by students of Prof. Philipp Reinfeld, also from HFT. A total of around 60 construction kits will be on display, which will also be presented in an extensive catalog. And, of course, many dozens of models will be on display in their assembled state.
