I am not a case - The lives of Anna O., Bertha Pappenheim and P. Berthold

Theatre
by ELEGANZ AUS REFLEX
How much adaptation to society is necessary, and at what point do I lose
myself? Eleganz aus Reflex's exploration of the history of anti-Semitism and the lives of German Jews continues with the
work “Ich bin kein Fall” (I am not a case).
The focus is on the life of Bertha Pappenheim from Frankfurt. In a choreographed spoken theater evening, Bertha's inner conflict between conformity
and resistance, self-determination and the expectations of society, her liberal convictions and the desire to reconcile them with her own religious community and
the German society of the time is made visible.
Bertha's life reflects a piece of Frankfurt's city history and stands for liberation from social constraints, the fight against trafficking in women, and the importance of language and expression for healing.
This production combines women's rights with mental health and social activism—issues and needs that are once again being strongly contested and questioned today, and whose achievements are being pushed back. As with the production “Macht endlich das Licht an!” (Turn on the light at last!), there will again be an accompanying thematic program, curated by Carolin Heymann-Serota and Carolin Millner.
