mainarchitektour IM MAINRUNDGANG

Guided Tour
A Classic: Getting to Know Frankfurt - from the Römerberg to city models and architecture, all the way to the view of the Main River at the Großmarkthalle.

This tour is ideal if you want to explore Frankfurt’s architecture for the first time - or if you want to see the city with fresh eyes. It starts in the historic centre at Römerberg and combines city history, museums, and urban spaces. At the Historical Museum, plans, models, and diagrams are used to vividly explain Frankfurt’s development. Afterward, the tour heads out into the city: from the rebuilt city centre through contemporary architecture toward Ostend.

Along the way, a vivid picture emerges of how Frankfurt has grown, how destruction and reconstruction have shaped the cityscape, and how new architecture responds to historic structures. A key landmark is the former Großmarkthalle by Martin Elsaesser, now part of the ECB complex.

The tour is ideal for architecture enthusiasts, cultural travelers, and anyone seeking a thorough yet accessible introduction to Frankfurt. At the end, a beautiful view of the Main River, the city, and the skyline awaits.
