"From the Golden Twenties to Latin & Souljazz"
The swing era began in the "Golden Twenties" in cities such as New York, Chicago and Kansas City. Swing also quickly gained a foothold in Europe in cities such as Paris, London and Berlin. The musicals by George Gershwin, Kurt Weil and Cole Porter celebrated the lifestyle of this time and are still part of the "Great American Songbook" today.
The band's repertoire consists of the greatest hits of this period by legends such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Coleman Hawkins and other artists from this era. Who doesn't know songs like Take the A train, I got rhythm, Perdido or Mackie Messer?
The band also loves working with Eva Leticia Padilla, one of the most special voices in jazz, blues, Latin and soul. Vocal pieces such as Summertime, I feel good, Sunny or the Latin American classics from the 1960s such as Besame Mucho. Each composition is explored for its special features and these are taken into account in skillful arrangements using sophisticated technique and a vital joy of playing. Far from being overly intellectual and introverted, the band knows in a unique way how to breathe new musical relevance into these wonderful compositions, not to mention a considerable entertainment value.
Max Greger Jr. and his band have all been involved with the great masters such as Ellington, Basie, Porter, Gershwin and Getz for a long time and are proud to have been musical partners to the protagonists of the founding era of jazz.
Their musical companions range from Max Greger Senior and Hugo Strasser, Bill Ramsey and Chuck Berry, to Ack van Rooyen, Chaka Khan and Till Brönner.
Their long collaboration and shared enthusiasm for the styles of jazz and soul allow them to play together at the highest level, characterized by great virtuosic ease and instrumental mastery. The result is a very varied program that always gives both the performers and the audience an abundance of pleasure.
