Michael Bittner is a political columnist and satirist. This ominous combination means that his own country and its inhabitants often seem strange to him. In the stories and satires in his new book "Germans in the Wind", he writes about the changing function of jogging trousers, the phenomenology of snoring and the existential significance of the regulars' table. He climbs into the volcanic pool with monkeys, visits compatriots in their natural habitat (Müritz, Bavarian Forest, party congress) and stays on the Eurocity with drunken Westphalians. He is always a subtle commentator and participant observer at the same time. While mocking others, he never forgets to look at his own weaknesses. Because you are always more German than you think.
