Comic artist Nicolas Mahler dissects his entire published oeuvre in a specially conceived lightning talk entitled "My first 66 books in 66 minutes" - from his beginnings as a self-published minicomic artist in Vienna in the 1990s to his current graphic novels for major publishing houses, which have been translated and published in 19 countries worldwide. The 66 minutes are packed with pictures, short comics, anecdotes, deep and shallow insights into the cultural scene.
Nicolas Mahler, born in Vienna in 1969, leads a dual existence as a comic artist and literary editor. He became known for his illustrated adaptations of works of classic world literature (Thomas Bernhard, Elfriede Jelinek, Marcel Proust, James Joyce, Friederike Mayröcker) published by Suhrkamp. He also publishes autobiographical comics about his experiences as an illustrator in the art and literary world, cartoon collections and volumes of poetry. He is artistic director of the School for Poetry in Vienna.
