"At home" is not just a phrase for Pia and Frank Winkler. They see their tavern on Neuer Wall as a feel-good place with good food "without frills", a cosy atmosphere and friendly service – and themselves as hosts and hostesses who are responsible for this. Despite the rustic antler lamps and wood panelling, the tubular restaurant has been carefully modernised and doesn't look stuffy, but rather likeable; this is also helped by the colourful mix of families and groups of all ages who settle down in the alcoves or outside on the terrace.
The menu features fresh, regional home cooking: from coarse farmer's sausage to chocolate pudding. There's also a wide selection of ciders, such as the house cider made by the landlord himself or specialities like ice cider. At the end of the evening, nobody is guaranteed to go home hungry or thirsty – just like after a visit at home.
