Zum Lahmen Esel

Apple Wine Tavern
Regional Kitchen, German
This traditional restaurant in a half-timbered building with a large garden in Niederursel offers the best regional cuisine and is part of "Hessen à la carte".

This picture-book restaurant is located right next to Niederursel underground station: The listed half-timbered building from the 18th century is home to one of the oldest and largest cider taverns in the city. The pub was first mentioned in 1807, and the cosy garden can accommodate 200 guests under beautiful old trees, just as many as in the restaurant rooms. Families appreciate the small children's playground. A special plus for the kitchen: the "Lahme Esel" is part of the "Hessen à la carte" network. This means that as far as possible, ingredients from the region are used in the cooking and great attention is paid to sustainability. On the menu you will find a wide selection of Hessian specialities - sometimes classic, sometimes with an innovative twist. Incidentally, the restaurant owes its name to a legend: A farmer is said to have been travelling here with his donkey team when the animal didn't want to go any further after a break. It is said that he could not be persuaded to leave Niederursel for the rest of his life.
