Städel Museum: Monet on the Normandy Coast
19.03. - 05.07.2026 Monet on the Normandy Coast at Städel Museum for 15 or more persons
Monet's Coast. The Discovery of Étretat
19.03. - 05.07.2026
From March 19 to July 5, 2026, the Städel Museum presents the impressive special exhibition Monet's Coast. The Discovery of Étretat. The exhibition sheds light on the fascination of the French fishing village of Étretat for 19th century artists, in particular Claude Monet, and examines its influence on the development of Impressionism.
The ongoing search for color tones and harmonies is the theme of the major exhibition at the Städel Museum. The setting is Paris at the end of the 19th century, where Vienna-born Carl Schuch devoted himself to “pure painting”. He worked intensively with the pigments and palettes of his French colleagues. By juxtaposing his outstanding still lifes and landscapes with works by Manet, Cézanne, Monet and other contemporaries, the tension between Impressionism and Realism is made impressively visible.
Insider tip: The Städel roof offers an outstanding view of the Frankfurt skyline - the perfect way to round off the cultural program.
Please note that the Städel Museum is closed on Mondays.
Duration:
Approx. one hour
