Ich-Denkmal ("Ich" monument)

The “I” Monument stands on the southern bank of the Main River in Frankfurt am Main. Created by Frankfurt artist Hans Traxler, the work was installed in 2005 and is part of the city’s public art program. Unlike traditional monuments, it does not depict a historical figure but consists of a pedestal that visitors are expressly allowed to step onto.
The idea is simple and striking: anyone who steps onto the pedestal becomes a monument themselves. A display panel explores the idea that every person is unique. This creates a playful take on what is essentially a representative form of monument.
