Petri House

  • Historical Building
On the banks of the Nidda River, the Petrihaus tells the story of Georg Brentano, his family, and the literary world of the Romantic era.

The Petrihaus Rödelheim is located directly on the Nidda River, across from Brentanopark. This historic half-timbered house is one of the most distinctive cultural sites in western Frankfurt and is closely associated with the Brentano family. Georg Brentano, a banker, art collector, and brother of Bettine and Clemens Brentano, purchased the house in the early 19th century and used it as a retreat in his “garden kingdom” in Rödelheim.
The connection to the Brentanos continues to shape the site to this day. The Petrihaus commemorates a family that was part of the literary and cultural world of the Romantic era, and whose connections to Frankfurt are particularly vivid here. The rooms, reading room, and exhibitions explore this history and reveal how closely garden culture, literature, and private life were intertwined.
Its location by the water also enhances the house’s unique character. The half-timbered building exudes a sense of tranquility and seems almost hidden, nestled in the green landscape along the Nidda River. After years of neglect, it was restored through civic engagement and is now used for guided tours, readings, concerts, and cultural events.
