Die Eselei

Restaurant
Regional Kitchen, German
The Nordwestzentrum in Frankfurt-Heddernheim is a local hero among the city's malls. Special plus: the Eselei with good, regional cuisine and Frankfurt originals.

Not many shopping malls have a beer garden with four magnolia trees. The beautiful atmosphere in the atrium alone makes the Eselei in the basement of the Nordwestzentrum a popular meeting place. For shopping fans, the mall in Heddernheim is a classic: even in the heaviest downpour, you can wander through more than 170 shops and restaurants in the dry.
The Eselei even welcomes its guests before the shops open. From 9.30 am, you can choose from an opulent breakfast menu. If you come for lunch or dinner, you can enjoy international and German cuisine ranging from tarte flambée and Wiener schnitzel to Hessian classics - always with a pleasant dose of Frankfurt local patriotism. The tea comes from the Frankfurt tea house Ronnefeldt, the bread from the Frankfurt bakery Huck and the Riesling Hochheimer Hölle from the winery of the city of Frankfurt.
How did chef Thomas Metzmacher come up with the name Eselei? The animal is practically his trademark; he also runs the popular restaurant "Zum Lahmen Esel" in Niederursel.
