Possmann Winery and Frankfurter Äpfelwein Botschaft
Submarines in the cellar? On a guided tour of the award-winning winery, you will experience many a surprise and can stop for a bite to eat afterwards.
In 1881, Philip Possmann registered as a cider producer and from then on delivered home-pressed cider to the restaurants in his area by horse-drawn cart. And today, five generations later, his descendants still love everything to do with apples and let us share in their passion. You can book individual tours of the business and find out how the "Stöffche" is made and in what quantities: In the peak season, up to 300,000 liters of apple juice are processed here every day. A particularly curious fact: some of the cider is stored in the deep sandstone cellar in tanks from old submarines from the Second World War, which have been converted into storage barrels. Afterwards, you can purchase the products of the family business, which have been awarded more than 110 gold medals by the German Agricultural Society DLG, in the wine press store. These include not only the famous "Frau Rauscher" apple wine, but also apple juice and other drinks such as sparkling wine, mulled apple wine and cider.
Finally, you can enjoy refreshments in the in-house restaurant "Frankfurter Äpfelwein Botschaft", on nice days also outside in the garden on the premises. In addition to seasonal dishes and Frankfurt classics, there is a good selection of tarte flambée and fresh salads. And a delicious aperitif beforehand: for example the Altstadt Spritz, a mixture of rosé apple wine, Aperol and soda.
