Die Dramatische Bühne
Classy velvet armchairs? No, thanks! Works of world literature? Yes, please! The Dramatische Bühne takes on Shakespeare, Goethe, and other theatre greats—and then transforms the classics with pace, music, and wonderfully wacky ideas. Sometimes even the audience gets involved and votes on who lives or dies on stage! During the colder months, the ensemble usually performs at its home venue, the Exzess-Halle in a Bockenheim backyard; in the summer, Grüneburgpark is their venue.
“Ideally, it’s like in Shakespeare’s plays, where beggars and streetwalkers sat alongside the nobility,” says co-founder and director Thorsten Morawietz. The audience decides for itself how much to pay for admission: a very low “barely-anything price” or, voluntarily, an “excellence price.”
