The Romanfabrik is a lively cultural venue in Frankfurt that regularly hosts readings, discussions, and concerts. Its unique atmosphere inspires visitors and promotes exchange between artists and audiences. A must for literature fans in the city.
Programme:
The rooftop terrace of the ROMANFABRIK is located between two taller buildings and forms an intimate, relaxed urban space: perfect for chilled summer evenings with music. On Rooftop Day, we are offering an atmospheric concert with Iso Herquist to celebrate the release of his CD “Ekstra Bløde – Swing, havin' the Blues.”
Admission: from 7:00 pm
Concert start: 8:00 pm
“Ekstra Bløde” – that's what it says on the packet of extra-soft tissues in Denmark. But “bløde” doesn't just mean ‘soft’ – it also means “to bleed.” Or “to pour.” As in rain. When Iso Herquist plays swing tunes from the golden age of jazz, it's not exactly soft. His voice sounds more like a smoky jazz club after a very, very long blues session. Like your favorite terrycloth pajamas that have been washed too hot: velvety, but scratchy and heartbreaking. Like missing the bus in the pouring rain. Simply a full broadside of blues.
The versatile, jazzy sound and musical depth of his ukulele are also surprising – not only for those who previously considered the small stringed instrument a Hawaiian gimmick. It swings and grooves and kicks – nothing is missing.
The program is equally suited for dreamy listening, as well as for swaying, dancing, or joining in. Iso Herquist promises a unique concert evening with “Ekstra Bløde.”
With: Iso Herquist (vocals & ukulele), Uta Wagner (drums), and Thore Benz (double bass).
Before the concert, there will be a 20- to 30-minute Lindy Hop tutorial for anyone who wants to dance, where dancer Giuseppina Galloro will teach one or two basic Lindy Hop steps.
