Sargassum - curse and blessing
Species-rich habitat or environmental plague triggered by the climate crisis? The special exhibition shows the two faces of the fascinating brown algae Sargassum. Since 2011, huge carpets of algae have been floating in the Atlantic and washing up on the coasts of the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico. Turtles are dying, coral reefs are dying and people are complaining of health problems. But Sargassum also offers a unique habitat with high biodiversity. The film "Beyond Sargassum", original algae and many of their diverse co-inhabitants bring this area of tension to life.
