Song recital

For many years, Simon Bailey was one of Frankfurt's audience favorites as a member of the ensemble. This season, he stepped in for the second performance of Rudi Stephan's opera Die ersten Menschen. His repertoire here includes roles such as Peter (Hansel and Gretel), Mr. Redburn (Billy Budd), Gunther (Götterdämmerung), Klingsor (Parsifal), Gelone (L'Orontea), Don Magnifico (La Cenerentola), Orest (Elektra), Křenek's Adam Ochsenschwanz (Schwergewicht) and the title role of Duke Bluebeard's Castle. Guest engagements have brought the British bass-baritone as Achilla (Giulio Cesare in Egitto), Don Bartolo (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Mozart's Figaro, Leporello (Don Giovanni) and Kutuzov (War and Peace), Méphistophélès (La damnation de Faust), the four villains (Les contes d'Hoffmann), Jochanaan (Salome), Balstrode (Peter Grimes) and Der Totenrichter (Die Verurteilung des Lukullus), among others.He has appeared at the opera houses in Wiesbaden, Stuttgart, Basel, Strasbourg, Brussels, London and Milan. Since his debut at the Tyrolean Festival Erl, Wotan / Wanderer (Der Ring des Nibelungen) has also been one of the 2018 Wales Theatre Award winner's signature roles. He most recently sang Wotan in Dortmund (Das Rheingold), Lucerne and Dresden (Die Walküre), and the Wanderer (Siegfried) in Wiesbaden, Dortmund, Dresden and Versailles.
