Guided Tour: “The Imperial Election and Coronation at Frankfurt Cathedral”
In 1356, the “Golden Bull” codified an older tradition into law: Frankfurt became the site of the election of the Roman kings and future emperors of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation. Later, beginning in 1562, the coronations also took place in Frankfurt. St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral was the focal point of these events, which put the entire city in a state of excitement and attracted countless visitors.
