Jazz in the Palmengarten Adam Baldych Quintet Portraits
The Polish jazz violinist Adam Bałdych is not only one of the unique virtuosos, but also one of the great poets of contemporary jazz. His music has a particularly lyrical vein, fed by the classical-romantic tradition of his instrument, by the typical melismas of Polish folk music, but also by the blue notes of jazz. In fact, Adam Bałdych creates poems rather than stories using all the means at his disposal, from pizziccato and battuto to butter-soft bowing, alienation and loops.
Adam Bałdych is "undoubtedly the greatest living violin technician in jazz. You can expect anything from him," says Ulrich Olshausen in the F.A.Z. Born in 1986, Adam attended music school from the age of nine and was soon regarded as a child prodigy on the violin. At the age of thirteen, he decided to take up jazz. At 16, he began an international career and was soon playing in Europe and Asia. After completing his jazz studies at the Music Academy in Katowice with distinction, he was awarded a scholarship to the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
He has played at numerous international festivals and has received many awards, including the Echo Jazz, the Grand Prix Jazz Melomani and the Golden Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
