Frankfurt
Wine Queen

A royal surprise

Frankfurt and the wine

Frankfurt am Main combines urban life with a vibrant wine culture, and this is also reflected in a very special tradition: since 2017, the city has had its own wine queen.

Kay Antje Lorenz has been Frankfurt’s wine queen since September 2025. Originally from the Rheingau-Taunus district, Kay has been living in Frankfurt for several years. Alongside her job as a flight attendant, she is studying oenology at Geisenheim University, as she is passionate about the world of wine. Her absolute ‘happy place’ is the Lohrberg.

Kay is passionately committed to raising the profile of this special place and inspiring more people to appreciate Frankfurt wine. Anyone wishing to meet the Wine Queen in person and learn more about her work will have the opportunity to do so at numerous events:

Frankfurt City Winery

Frankfurt surprises visitors with a feature one would expect to find in more traditional wine regions: the city on the Main has its own municipal winery with its own vineyard. The Lohrberger Hang covers 1.3 hectares and is officially classified as part of the Rheingau, one of Germany’s most renowned wine regions.

A Riesling of remarkable quality is grown on this exceptional site. The special climatic conditions and the careful tending of the vines help to ensure that a distinctive, elegant wine is produced here year after year.

Around 10,000 bottles are produced annually from the grapes of the Lohrberger Hang. These are available, amongst other places, at the Tourist Information Office Römer and directly from the City of Frankfurt’s winery.
