Frankfurt Art Association

At first glance, the facade of the Steines Haus on the Römerberg, with its turrets and battlements, is somewhat reminiscent of a knight’s castle. But there’s also a modern addition, and what lies behind it serves as a striking contrast to the historic atmosphere next door. This is the home of the Frankfurter Kunstverein, an internationally renowned institution for contemporary art. Founded as early as 1829, it is one of the oldest and largest art associations in Germany. In the “Steinernes Haus,” it presents rotating exhibitions featuring both young, emerging and established artists, as well as performances and often site-specific art projects. In addition, the Kunstverein offers a platform for discussions with artists, expert panels, and discussions on future trends, and sees itself as an interdisciplinary meeting place.
