Across four levels, a fascinating journey through the history of communication unfolds – from the earliest forms of interpersonal understanding to today’s digital networks. The exhibitions invite visitors not only to marvel but also to actively experience, touch, and engage intellectually. Interactive stations, rotating special exhibitions, as well as lively tours and workshops, make the visit a sensory experience. The children’s workshop is particularly exciting for families – whether for a spontaneous visit or a birthday party: children send secret messages via pneumatic tube, pick up the rotary dial phone, or create little works of art in the print workshop.
In the spacious basement, an especially immersive view of the past, present, and future of communication opens up across 2,500 square metres. Here, it becomes clear how rapidly our world is changing through technological innovation – and with it, the ways we feel, think, remember, and live together. Media and technologies increasingly shape our understanding of time and space, of closeness and distance. What we know, how we organise our lives, and how we relate to others – all of this is today more than ever shaped by communication. The Communication Museum reveals what often remains hidden: how deeply technology and language permeate our world.
