German Film Museum
Camera technology, iconic props, cinematic tricks: The German Film Museum offers you a look behind the scenes of film production and showcases selected scenes.
Are you a drama queen? Or more of a romantic? Or maybe even a horror fan? At the German Film Museum, cinephiles and fans of every film genre will find something to enjoy. Housed in the historic villa on Schaumainkai, the collection features not only technical equipment illustrating the evolution of the camera and film but also, of course, countless moving images—from silent films to key scenes from well-known classics. Fan highlights include special exhibits such as Maximilian Schell’s Oscar trophy or the famous “Alien” costume by artist and film designer HR Giger. Many interactive stations immerse you in the world of film during your visit: Why not try standing in front of the green screen to see how you’d look on camera? And, of course, the museum also features its own movie theater with a varied program.
